Another banger from P.SO and the Soundmen….duh

Friday, May 7th, 2010

Coming off of their critically acclaimed remix for “That Tree”, The Soundmen have remixed or rather re-interpolated Wolf Gang’s epic ballad “Back To Back”. Collaborating with AOK Collective MC P.SO, they re-created the song with introspective lyrics that bring the emotion of the original track to light with a hip-hop twist. For those of us in or had relationships that feel like everyone is trying to break you apart, this track is for you.

MOONTONES Cover Art

After a couple months of intense grinding, The Soundmen have done it again with Moontones .In what might be their best work yet, they teamed up with P.SO to create an unbelievable EP. You can hear samples from Memory Tapes, Midaircondo, Kleerup, and more artists. But what really sets Moontones aside from your average and above average record is the undeniable synergy between P.SO and The Soundmen.

From the second the synths first hit in the intro (Almost Home), you get the feeling that you’re going to fall in love with this album. Don’t be surprised when you not only listen all the way through, but are quick to run it back.  P.SO quickly hits the nail on the head, ”This is headphone music for your mental state.” (Heavily recommended you throw on a nice pair, and put something in the air).

When  reviewing music, the easiest thing to do is draw comparisons. But I can honestly say that this is unlike anything I’ve ever heard before. The diversity within the EP itself is notable.   Each song carries a different flavor, and hits hard. Each beat is intricate, and well developed. Each synth and snare is exactly where it needs to be.  P.SO truly delivers the entire time. From every hook to every line, his lyrics and rythem are spot on, leaving you wanting more. I can’t wait to watch where he goes within the next year, it is apparent that the possibilities are endless.

For me, the most notable song is Fate My Mistress (Track 6). As the beat builds and each layer is added, you’ll get the feeling that something great is on the way, and it truly is. The intricacy behind the verbal patterns on the hook is addictive. But what really does it for me is when the song comes together right after the first hook (1:50), “Things will never be the same again; I’m walking and I’m feeling the pain again; and I’m so lonely.” It just doesn’t get much better.

As you can tell by now, I can’t say enough about this album. It’s a reflection of pure talent. With all that being said: this thing is free! Get it on your ipod now, so in a year you’ll be able to say you were up on Soundmen and P.SO before they blew up, it’s gonna happen.

Introducing Augustine

Wednesday, December 2nd, 2009

So I was recently turned onto a great band called Augustine by my friend Britt. They are originally from Florida, but recently moved to NYC.  As you can see, they’re a two piece band, equally fronted by both Jordan Meredith and Louis Johnson.  I wanted to feature their music on thebandaidz, so I reached out to Jordan on Facebook Chat to find out more on the duo. It turned out to be a great conversation. I got some great information and accidentally decided to set a new trend, with the first ever unplanned/impromtu facebook chat interview. Full interview? after the page break.

3 Degree’s of Collaboration

Easy (Grizzly Bear “Two Weeks” Remix) – Sliggitay

I recently was cruising through some of the artists on our “you need to check out” section (to the right).  There’s a lot of great music on there, and today we’re going to highlight  3 degrees of Kevin Bacon collaboration on 3 great artists you need to check out.  Sliggitay (Bay Area) to Grizzly Bear (Brooklyn) to The Soundmen (NYC).

I was pumped to hit up Sliggitay’s Myspace page and find a remix of Grizzly Bear – Two Weeks. DA from Chester French put me on to Sliggitay. As you’ll see very soon, DA shouts him out in his interview with thebandaidz.com.  Sliggitay has an extremely original sound. Combine that with complex rhyme schemes, and unique patterns. He’s exactly the fresh Left Coast sound that Hip Hop needs right now. Sliggitay’s written’s are bound to catch America’s ears in the next 365 days.

Grizzly Bear was just featured in our post from yesterday on awesome new artists from Brooklyn. If you haven’t heard of them, you will.  They have also been featured on our “you need to check out” section for quite some time now.

If you look back to our September Archives, you’ll see our post on The Soundmen’s mash-up of Two Weeks and Lil Wayne.  We also just featured their new Britney Remix, and had one half of the production duo that is The Soundmen, DJ  Scott Durday, spinning at our show at The Canteen. We can’t say enough out about these guys, and the music they put out, be sure to check out their blog for new and old tracks.

So there is a slice of Kevin Bacon for you. All three of these artist are Bandaidz favorites. Check in often for updates on these and other talented musicians on their way up. If you liked them, then you’ll like more artists on our “you need to check out” section, so show them some love too.
