If you haven’t heard about this kid, then you’re missing out on an incredible story. I don’t even know where to start: how bout the fact that he stole 4 planes, and safely escaped a crash landing with all of them; or that he’s rung up almost 1.5 million dollars in damages and stolen goods; or my favorite, how after they finally caught him, he escaped a month later and has been up-ing his game ever since. Don’t get me wrong here folks, I don’t support robbery or crime, but if you’re going to do it both non violently and as stylish as this dude, then I give you a thumbs up. The only real victims are the insurance companies. Become a fan on facebook, and check out the video below.
After a couple months of intense grinding, The Soundmen have done it again with Moontones .In what might be their best work yet, they teamed up with P.SO to create an unbelievable EP. You can hear samples from Memory Tapes, Midaircondo, Kleerup, and more artists. But what really sets Moontones aside from your average and above average record is the undeniable synergy between P.SO and The Soundmen.
From the second the synths first hit in the intro (Almost Home), you get the feeling that you’re going to fall in love with this album. Don’t be surprised when you not only listen all the way through, but are quick to run it back. P.SO quickly hits the nail on the head, ”This is headphone music for your mental state.” (Heavily recommended you throw on a nice pair, and put something in the air).
When reviewing music, the easiest thing to do is draw comparisons. But I can honestly say that this is unlike anything I’ve ever heard before. The diversity within the EP itself is notable. Each song carries a different flavor, and hits hard. Each beat is intricate, and well developed. Each synth and snare is exactly where it needs to be. P.SO truly delivers the entire time. From every hook to every line, his lyrics and rythem are spot on, leaving you wanting more. I can’t wait to watch where he goes within the next year, it is apparent that the possibilities are endless.
For me, the most notable song is Fate My Mistress (Track 6). As the beat builds and each layer is added, you’ll get the feeling that something great is on the way, and it truly is. The intricacy behind the verbal patterns on the hook is addictive. But what really does it for me is when the song comes together right after the first hook (1:50), “Things will never be the same again; I’m walking and I’m feeling the pain again; and I’m so lonely.” It just doesn’t get much better.
As you can tell by now, I can’t say enough about this album. It’s a reflection of pure talent. With all that being said: this thing is free! Get it on your ipod now, so in a year you’ll be able to say you were up on Soundmen and P.SO before they blew up, it’s gonna happen.
The Coolest Out-Dave Matthews and Tim Reynolds are releasing their third album this week, called Live in Las Vegas, recorded live in 2009. Their previous two official releases – Live at Luther College (1999) and Live at Radio City (2007) – were two of my favorite live cds ever. These two have incredible chemistry with two acoustic guitars, making songs originally crafted with a full band backing them sound just as full and deep, and often even more beautiful, with just the two of them. This is a live version of the first single off Dave Matthews Band’s most recent album, and its dope. If you like this track definitely go buy the full album, which has 26 tracks and plays for almost two and a half hours. Worth a purchase, this is great music for almost any occasion.
According to the National Post, Lil Wayne has put off his jail sentence until March 2nd to “get dental surgery”. It’s too bad, I had an article ready in his honor as to why he was the best rapper alive. I guess you’ll have to wait until March 2nd. As for Wayne, I couldn’t be prouder, now he can film some more in front of the green screen, and he’ll be able to rock some codine at least for the first few weeks. Get em weezy
