Update: Kanye Quote was a fake…

Kanye West

Rolling Stone- Earlier this week, a satirical Website called Scrape.TV posted a (fake) story about how, with the passing of Michael Jackson, Kanye West declared himself as the new King of Pop.

“I was just listening to Wendy Williams and heard some quote about me saying I’m the new King of Pop. Not only did I not say that, I haven’t said anything. It makes me feel bad that obviously I made people feel that I would be corny enough to say something so whack after the passing of an idol, a legend and more than that a human being with feelings and family. It scares me to think what people will believe, without even a source. Any random person can type something on the Internet and then the world believes it. I don’t talk to press or do TV or do promotions of any sort. I’ve stopped chasing and buying into fame. Fame is like cigarettes with no surgeon general warning. It destroys most people as it did to the true and only King of Pop. We exploit ourselves and eat our own egos ’till there is nothing left. I have a feeling that this won’t be the last false statement with my name on it, but this will be the last time I defend myself. I’m done.”

How about them apples, so some asshole looks at this scrape tv site, and thinks its real enough to re-post it as actual news. The closest headline is “Ovarian Cancer Reduction in Men Gives New Hope For Cure”.

San Diego’s Defamation League

These guys recently opened for Chester French at 91x’s “next big thing” show at the 710 Club. They have a very unique set up: MC, DJ, Drummer, Guitarist/Singer, Keyboard/Rhythm Guitar, and Bass. As you can see in the video above (live version), these guys can definitely flow. Their rock/rap style creates a melodic diverse sound that can not easily be compared to anyone in the game right now. They bring a lot of energy to the stage, and make it easy for the crowd to get moving. They’re getting big in the Ocean Beach/San Diego scene and I would not be surprised to see them making big moves soon. Check out their myspace here.

You need to check out Trouble Andrew

Friday, July 31st, 2009

I first came across pro-snowboarder/musician Trouble Andrew back in 2007 when I promoted a show on their tour. Their style? Crunk Rock. They recently got signed to Virgin and are about to make some noise.

For more on Trouble, check out our favorite NYC writer, Nell Alk, in her article for Papermag.

More Nell.

Introducing Ignacio from NYC

Tuesday, July 28th, 2009

Ignacio is one of our favorite new NYC arists. The video above is from his last project, Dellacane. He recently signed to Genius Entertainment (NYC Indie Label) and is in the midst of pumping out new music. He has a unique sound that can quickly be compared to the likes of The Arctic Monkeys or The Libertines with a taste of The Beatles. Check out  his official site here, be sure to check out his three brand new songs, “That’s Mine”, “Jane”, and “Her”. Expect an <in depth> article and video interview very soon.

Jay-Z talks about Blueprint 3

HOVA

UK- MGMT and Rihanna are among the artists appearing on Jay-Z’s new album, the rapper has revealed. The indie band and R&B star will join the likes of Kud Cudi, Drake and Mr Hudson on The Blueprint 3, due 11 September.

The Blueprint 3 is a diverse and “mature” album, Jay-Z said, reflecting the time that has passed since the first Blueprint album in 2001…Despite this compliment, Lil Wayne is one of the hip-hop superstars who does not appear on the album. Nor does Jay-Z’s wife, R&B star Beyoncé, though the rapper still hasn’t ruled out the possibility.

I love Jay-Z, always have, and I’m pumped on this album, but I still get angry thinking about his “retirement” after the Black Album. A bold faced lie used as a marketing strategy to fool millions of people into buying an album. “When I come back like Jordan, wearin’ the 4 5, it aint to play games with you, its to aim at you.” At least he was telling us the whole time.

Check out a single off of this album, Run This Town feat. Kanye and Rihanna, here on Kanye’s Blog.
