Tuesday, March 30th, 2010There’s been a lot of hype around this cover, I think its amazing. Check out all three versions of the song (cover/wall of sound/studio), my favorite being the wall of sound style studio version.

Tuesday, March 30th, 2010

Hey you rockers and rollers, you movers and shakers! It’s your main
man Matt Leary here, ready and raring to bring you some lost classics
from the nineties! (*quick guitar riff*)… sorry for the obnoxious
radio DJ intro but I’m just really excited to throw some great 90’s
songs at your face. Let’s do it
Pulp – Common People
I don’t understand why Oasis and Blur got all the britpop praise. Dare
I say Pulp is better than both of them? I do dare! I do!
Sunny Day Real Estate – Seven
These guys were a part of the original emo scene. Don’t worry, this
was back when emo wasn’t musical barf played by guys who give their
kids names like Bronx Mowgli Wentz. As you can see though, it was
whiny from the get go.
Neutral Milk Hotel – Holland, 1945
This song is off Nuetral Milk Hotel’s second and last album, In The
Aeroplane Over The Sea, which is a hipster essential. If you are
walking around in tight jeans, non prescription Ray Ban glasses, but
don’t have Aeroplane Over The Sea on your iPod then you are not a full
fledged hipster… I don’t care if you saw Cat Power at the Cake Shop
before she was considered cool, your still not a full fledged hipster!
Christ, just deal with it.

A mash-up orgy

Matisyahu vs. John Lennon vs. Blink 182 vs. Bob Marley vs. Gentleman – Imagine One Day (so far away)
I think this song is perfect without Blink, but its still a great mash-up by Mashup-Germany
Jonsi – Go do
Tuesday, March 30th, 2010Jónsi – Go Do from Jónsi on Vimeo.
Jonsi Brigisson’s debut album will be hitting the shelves a week from
today and this guy right here is excited. If you are unaware of this
Jonsi character, you might recognize his high pitch cooing from Sigur
Ros ditties. Jonsi decided to take a break from singing in his made up
language (Hopelandic… i know, i know) as one fourth of the Icelandic
post rock dream weavers to make a solo album that sounds like… well
Sigur Ros. The song are shorter though and Jonsi does sing in English
which may intrigue those who have shied away from his previous work.
For those of you bro’d out readers donning lacrosse pinnies and Oakley
shades, I know this music may sound kind of “gay”, but if the song
posted above doesn’t make you want to cure cancer while climbing Mt.
Everest, then a part of your soul is clearly missing.
