That Tree (soundmen remix)

Friday, March 12th, 2010

The Soundmen have taken Snoop and Cudi’s new single “That Tree” and turned it into a space disco jam where George Clinton, New Order, Passion Pit, and Modest Mouse would all be playing at the same time. Its an extremely fun record whose goal is helping to bring the listener through those last weeks of winter and into spring.

The Soundmen are the NYC/Seattle production duo of Justin Jamison and Scott Durday. They have produced and remixed records for artists such as Glasvegas, The Drums, Super Viral Brothers, 33hz, P.SO (AOK Collective), Ron Browz, G Dep and many others. Their genre bending sounds always bring a new angle to their projects while maintaining a solid grounding in catchy melodies and inventive percussion. Their production has been featured on Nahright, The Fader, 2Dopeboyz, Paste Magazine, Urb, Rolling Stone, Okayplayer and many other notable blogs and sites.

MOONTONES Cover Art

After a couple months of intense grinding, The Soundmen have done it again with Moontones .In what might be their best work yet, they teamed up with P.SO to create an unbelievable EP. You can hear samples from Memory Tapes, Midaircondo, Kleerup, and more artists. But what really sets Moontones aside from your average and above average record is the undeniable synergy between P.SO and The Soundmen.

From the second the synths first hit in the intro (Almost Home), you get the feeling that you’re going to fall in love with this album. Don’t be surprised when you not only listen all the way through, but are quick to run it back.  P.SO quickly hits the nail on the head, ”This is headphone music for your mental state.” (Heavily recommended you throw on a nice pair, and put something in the air).

When  reviewing music, the easiest thing to do is draw comparisons. But I can honestly say that this is unlike anything I’ve ever heard before. The diversity within the EP itself is notable.   Each song carries a different flavor, and hits hard. Each beat is intricate, and well developed. Each synth and snare is exactly where it needs to be.  P.SO truly delivers the entire time. From every hook to every line, his lyrics and rythem are spot on, leaving you wanting more. I can’t wait to watch where he goes within the next year, it is apparent that the possibilities are endless.

For me, the most notable song is Fate My Mistress (Track 6). As the beat builds and each layer is added, you’ll get the feeling that something great is on the way, and it truly is. The intricacy behind the verbal patterns on the hook is addictive. But what really does it for me is when the song comes together right after the first hook (1:50), “Things will never be the same again; I’m walking and I’m feeling the pain again; and I’m so lonely.” It just doesn’t get much better.

As you can tell by now, I can’t say enough about this album. It’s a reflection of pure talent. With all that being said: this thing is free! Get it on your ipod now, so in a year you’ll be able to say you were up on Soundmen and P.SO before they blew up, it’s gonna happen.

Easy (Grizzly Bear “Two Weeks” Remix) – Sliggitay

I recently was cruising through some of the artists on our “you need to check out” section (to the right).  There’s a lot of great music on there, and today we’re going to highlight  3 degrees of Kevin Bacon collaboration on 3 great artists you need to check out.  Sliggitay (Bay Area) to Grizzly Bear (Brooklyn) to The Soundmen (NYC).

I was pumped to hit up Sliggitay’s Myspace page and find a remix of Grizzly Bear – Two Weeks. DA from Chester French put me on to Sliggitay. As you’ll see very soon, DA shouts him out in his interview with thebandaidz.com.  Sliggitay has an extremely original sound. Combine that with complex rhyme schemes, and unique patterns. He’s exactly the fresh Left Coast sound that Hip Hop needs right now. Sliggitay’s written’s are bound to catch America’s ears in the next 365 days.

Grizzly Bear was just featured in our post from yesterday on awesome new artists from Brooklyn. If you haven’t heard of them, you will.  They have also been featured on our “you need to check out” section for quite some time now.

If you look back to our September Archives, you’ll see our post on The Soundmen’s mash-up of Two Weeks and Lil Wayne.  We also just featured their new Britney Remix, and had one half of the production duo that is The Soundmen, DJ  Scott Durday, spinning at our show at The Canteen. We can’t say enough out about these guys, and the music they put out, be sure to check out their blog for new and old tracks.

So there is a slice of Kevin Bacon for you. All three of these artist are Bandaidz favorites. Check in often for updates on these and other talented musicians on their way up. If you liked them, then you’ll like more artists on our “you need to check out” section, so show them some love too.

More Fire from The Soundmen

After lighting up the summer with their VeckaFlyest EP and subsequent remixes from The Killers, The Drums, Amanda Blank, and Nelly Furtado; The Soundmen are at it again with their new remix for Britany Spears – 3. Instead of trying to take her higher up into the pop stratosphere The Soundmen took her single down south where the 808s are loud and beats are slow. This pulsing remix is another example of The Soundmen’s original take on remixes and production that never bore and always knock. Thank you for your time and enjoy!

The View at the Canteen is Unreal

Sunday, October 25th, 2009

The past couple nights over at The Canteen were truly an awesome time. It was unlike any show I’ve ever experienced. Our favorite DJ, Scott Durday, cutting nothing but fresh music, comedians, affordable beer and wine, and awesome live music… all with quite possibly the most breathtaking backdrop in New York City. Check out some pictures…

… show review will be up tomorrow.
